Guests at Wyalkatchem Travellers Park rose early on ANZAC Day, the 110th anniversary of the Gallipolli landing, embracing the crisp morning air as they gathered to pay their respects at the solemn Dawn Service, honoring the brave souls who served our nation.

The service commenced at 6am, right as the first rays of the sun pierced through the clouds, creating a breathtaking and awe-inspiring spectacle in the morning sky.

This year, included the reading of postcards sent to loved ones from the front line.

The post cards read were from men who lived in Wyalkatchem, while some returned, most did not.

It brougfht home the fragility of war.

Although the writers couldn’t disclose much about their positions, listening to their words still brought tears to some eyes.

After the wreath-laying and the conclusion of the service, attendees gathered at the Men’s Shed for a gunfire breakfast provided by the Men’s Shed and Wyalkatchem Rotary.

The warmth of the fire, along with the aroma of cooking sausages, hot coffee, and tea, was a welcome sight.

After enjoying the food, warmth of the fire, and conversation, many meandered home to prepare for the main march in town.
