Fridays seem to come around quickly these days.
The Wyalkatchem Travellers Park had several guests staying recently and they were invited to join some of the local community for Devonshire Tea Friday.
The Devonshire Teas are held at the local craft shop which used to be the Catholic school. The craft shop is decorated in the 50’s style, from the curtains, crockery, to the table and chairs. It is like walking into the past. The shop has homemade crafts, jams, chutney and paintings made by the loving hands of the local men and women of Wyalkatchem. I have it on good authority that the cauliflower relish is the best in the district.
As the Wyalkatchem Travellers Park group filed into the craft shop, the tables and chairs were soon filled by the group and the locals.
The Devonshire ladies were run of their feet taking orders and delivering mouthwatering scones and tea/coffee to the hungry hoard. There was laughter and conversations going between the locals and the guests. As the delicious scones and accompanying drinks were placed in front of the customers the noise level lowered to a smattering of yums and lip smacking’s.
Once again, the Devonshire ladies have out done themselves by feeding everyone and making sure all customers were happy. The ladies, as usual, achieved this with an award-winning style and smiles.
Only in Wyalkatchem, for $4.00, could you get 3 home made half scones with jam and cream and endless cups of tea, coffee, cordial, milo or iced coffee/milo.
An outstanding debate has developed on whether the cream is on the bottom with the jam on top or the jam is on the bottom with the cream on top.
So, whether you are staying at the Wyalkatchem Travellers Park or just passing through, make sure you stop and enjoy a Devonshire Tea Friday and whilst there, place your vote on how the scones should be served.
