It was 10am in the morning and the town of Wyalkatchem was alerted to the sounds of motorcycles purring into the main street, today was the very first inaugural motorbike ride around the Wheatbelt, the brainchild of Rod Lawson Kerr.

Within the hour there were over 50 motorcycles parked opposite the Wyalkatchem Garden Café.

What a great place to start the ride, with amazing coffee and a mouthwatering menu.

The ride started after everyone had had their fill and we all started our engines (that unmistakeable sound of enjoyment and feeling free) and headed off to the main highway.

There were every type of motorcycles including trikes and tourers.

Rod had planned a leisurely 160km ride winding through some of the best riding roads Western Australia has to offer, with both easy and challenging areas, sweeping corners and long straight roads.

It was a lovely day, slightly warm when stopped but beautiful breeze’s when moving.

The rides first stop was Trayning where there was a slight break for checking bikes and riders.

Then it was off again riding past scenic pastures.

The next stop was in Bencubbin, where KC Café opened its door for the riders to purchase refreshment. The café alone is worth the ride as they have everything and anything you could ask for.

After everyone was refreshed it was on to Koorda.

The amazing scenery was on display again, riders enjoyed travelling along the winding roads observing different sights from the Trayning – Bencubbin areas.

The riders were soon in Koorda and it was a short ride back to Wyalkatchem.

On arrival in Wyalkatchem, the riders parked up in front and opposite the final destination The Wyalkatchem Hotel.

First order of the day was for a much-needed cold drinks and once the bodies had cooled down, some taking several beverages to achieve this, it was time to order lunch.

There is a vast array of different tasty foods served at the Wyalkatchem Hotel.

There was a meal for every taste.

Soon there was the sounds of merriment and long discussions on the ride and the best motorcycle to ride.

Needless to say, that conversation as no definitive ending.

Once all was said and done, it was time to bid farewell and depart for the journey home.

The riders peeled off heading towards their final destinations.

Thank you, Rod Lawson Kerr, for planning a great ride.
